The downtown core is the very heart of Vancouver. Here, architectural styles represent every decade. The core is ever changing - buildings that have outlived their usefulness are torn down and replaced. Some heritage buildings are preserved while others have new ones built behind their facades.
What goes on in the downtown core has also evolved. Vancouver’s financial district is still there, as are the nightclubs, shopping areas and tourist attractions. But something unique has happened. The major universities along with British Columbia’s premier technical school have opened campuses.
Condominium towers are being built at a furious pace. People not only work downtown, they live there in increasing numbers, creating a revitalized and rejuvenated city core. There is an energy here - so much is happening: business, leisure, shopping, nightlife. It is a mix that makes for a lively area and the residential component will no doubt add a positive new twist as downtown continues to evolve into more than the sum of its parts. Looking at what was, and what is, one could say the sky is the limit.
